# Reviewing a new draft

How to work through a document Sted has drafted for you, one section at a time, choosing which recommended requirements your organisation adopts.

When Sted drafts a document, it waits as Awaiting review until someone works through it. Select **Get started** on its page to step through the draft one section at a time, ticking the requirements you adopt. Sted adopts the standard sections for you when you finish, and the document becomes a Draft.

## What this is

Sted drafts your policies and procedures from its knowledge base, adapted to your organisation. Each section of a draft holds recommended requirements: single statements of what your organisation commits to do. The review is where you decide which of them you adopt, before anyone edits wording or approves anything.

Every recommended requirement carries a chip naming the standards it helps you meet, with the clauses listed when you hover over it. A requirement no clause is tagged to reads **Recommended**. The requirements you adopt count towards your audit readiness for each standard.

## Where to find it

Open **Framework**, then **Documents**, and choose **Awaiting review** in **Filter by:**. Select a document to open it, then select **Get started**. On a phone, select **Menu** at the top of the screen to open the sidebar first.

## How it works

### Step through the sections

1. Select **Get started** on the document's page.
2. Read the section's heading and introduction.
3. Tick each requirement your organisation will adopt.
4. Select **Adopt all recommendations** to adopt every recommended requirement in the section at once.
5. Select **Continue** to adopt the section and move to the next one.
6. Select **Finish** on the last section.
7. Select **Open the document** when **Your draft is ready** appears.

The ring at the top counts the sections you walk through, such as 3/7. **Back** returns you to an earlier section, and **Forward** appears once the section you are on has been adopted.

### Leave and come back

Each tick saves as you make it, so you can stop part-way. The document's page then shows **Continue review** instead of **Get started**, and the review reopens at the first section you have not adopted.

### The eight sections you do not walk through

Most policies and procedures share the same standard sections, and the review skips them:

- Policy Statement
- Scope
- References
- Responsibilities
- Information Classification
- Training and Awareness
- Monitoring, Audit, and Review
- Enforcement

Sted adopts these when you select **Finish**. Until then, the document shows them as "Standard section, adopted when the review finishes". A document made only of [standard sections](/docs/glossary/standard-section) skips straight to a single **Finish**.

### What finishing does

Finishing turns the document from Awaiting review into a Draft. It is not approved yet. To change wording, add requirements of your own or drop a recommended section, open the Draft in edit mode, as described in [editing a document](/docs/product/editing-documents). When it reads right, [approve it](/docs/product/approval-and-versions).

## Permissions

The level rule lets every level adopt recommendations, but ownership narrows it: only an administrator or the document's owner can review a draft, and only administrators and Policy and Process Owners can own a document.

| Action | Administrator | Policy and Process Owner | Reviewer | Personnel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| See a document awaiting review | All documents | Documents they own | No | No |
| Start or continue a review | All documents | Documents they own | No | No |
| Tick, untick and adopt requirements | All documents | Documents they own | No | No |
| Finish a review | All documents | Documents they own | No | No |

Reviewers and Personnel do not see a document until it is Approved. Anyone else who may not review a document sees no **Get started** on its page.

## Limits and plan features

The review decides which recommended requirements you adopt. It does not change their wording; that happens in edit mode once the document is a Draft.

On Preview you can open one generated document in full, including its review; the others need a paid plan.

## Frequently asked questions

Q: Do I have to adopt every recommended requirement?
A: No. Each recommended requirement is a proposal, and you adopt the ones your organisation will actually do. A line you leave unticked stays in the draft, so you can still tick it later in edit mode before the document is approved.

Q: Why does the review skip some sections?
A: Because eight sections are standard in every policy and procedure, from Policy Statement to Enforcement. Sted adopts them for you when you finish, so the review only asks about the sections that differ from one document to the next.

Q: Can I stop a review halfway and come back?
A: Yes. Each tick and each Continue saves as you go. The document's page then shows Continue review, and the review reopens at the first section you haven't adopted yet.

Q: Who sees the review once I finish it?
A: Only administrators and the document's owner, until it is approved. Finishing makes the document a Draft, and Reviewers and Personnel see a document only once it is Approved.
