Generating your framework

Sted writes your policies and procedures for the standards you adopt. Start a run from Standards with Update and generate framework, or from the next steps at the end of onboarding with Apply all and generate framework. A whole set takes about a minute, and each new document waits as Awaiting review.

What this is

Generation turns your adopted standards and what Sted knows about your organisation into documents. Sted drafts each policy and procedure from its knowledge base and adapts it to you, for you to review. The drafts are produced by models running in London.

A run is safe to repeat. It amends the documents it wrote earlier and keeps any text your organisation has written. Where you have already reviewed or approved a document and the run changes what Sted recommends, Sted keeps your version and prepares a new draft beside it, with a review task for the owner.

Where to find it

Open your organisation’s name in the sidebar, then Standards. Standards opens once onboarding is finished. At the end of onboarding, the next steps card offers Apply all and generate framework and Select standards individually.

Past runs are under Generation history at the foot of Summary, in a collapsed Generation runs list. There is no generate button on the Summary.

How it works

Generate from Standards

  1. Open Standards.
  2. Select the standards you want, or remove ones you do not.
  3. Select Update and generate framework.
  4. Select Update and generate to confirm.

Sted saves your standards first and runs generation only when every change has saved. Standards, what applies and what you adopt explains the choices.

Generate at the end of onboarding

  1. Select Apply all and generate framework on the next steps card.
  2. Select Apply and generate to confirm.

Sted adopts every recommended standard you have not chosen yet, then writes the documents for all of them.

While it runs

A banner says the framework is generating. When the run finishes, it shows what happened: how many documents were written, amended, unchanged or superseded. Select Review what was generated to open Documents, where each new one waits for its review.

Undo a run

  1. Open Summary and expand Generation runs under Generation history.
  2. Select Revert on the run.
  3. Select Revert to confirm.

Reverting puts the documents the run wrote or amended back as they were. It is all or nothing: if anyone has changed those documents since, or a later run has touched them, Sted refuses the revert rather than undo part of it. Only a run that succeeded, fully or partly, can be reverted.

Reviewers and Personnel do not see Generation history on the Summary, and they cannot change standards, so the generate buttons never appear for them.

Limits and plan features

Each organisation can start 6 generation runs an hour, and each person 3.

On Preview you get one free generation of your whole framework. You can then open one generated document in full; the rest, and any further run, need a paid plan. Every paid plan includes generation: Just the Framework at £99 a month, Framework and Users at £299 and Full Management System at £499, all excluding VAT.

Generated documents are in British English.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take Sted to generate my policies?

About a minute for a whole set. Sted shows a banner while the run works, then a count of the documents written, amended or left unchanged, with a link to review them.

Will generating again overwrite the changes I made?

No. A new run amends the documents it wrote and keeps any text your organisation has written. Where you’ve already reviewed or approved a document, Sted prepares a new draft beside your version instead of changing it.

Can I generate my framework for free?

Yes, once. Preview includes one free generation of your whole framework, and you can open one of the generated documents in full. Further runs, and the rest of the documents, need a paid plan.

Why isn’t there a generate button on the Summary?

Because generation follows a decision about standards. You start it from Standards after choosing them, or from the next steps at the end of onboarding. The Summary keeps the history of runs, where you can revert one.
