Training
Training in Sted records that each person has read and understood the approved version of a document that applies to them. An administrator or the document’s owner assigns people, and each person confirms it themselves. A new approved version asks people to train again, and completed training never expires.
What this is
Most management system standards expect you to show that people know the policies that govern their work. Training in Sted is read-and-confirm: each person confirms they have read and understood the approved version that applies to them, and the record is theirs alone. That confirmation, against the exact version they read, is the evidence an auditor can check.
In Sted, training belongs to an approved document and to one version of it. Each person’s training record shows when they were assigned, when they completed it and on which version. Once completed, the record cannot be changed or deleted, and it does not expire.
Records are kept apart from the tasks that chase them. A training task opens on the person’s Home while they have training outstanding and closes itself when they complete it.
Where to find it
Open Framework, then Training. With no document open, the page shows Your training, and administrators and Policy and Process Owners also see the Training register. While a document is open, Training in the sidebar opens that document’s own training page.
Your training tasks also appear on Home and on each document’s page.
How it works
Assign people to a document
- Open the document from Framework.
- Select Training in the sidebar.
- Find the person in the available trainees table.
- Select the plus button labelled Assign beside their name.
- Check that they now appear under Assigned Trainees.
To take someone off, select the cross beside their name under Assigned Trainees, then Confirm. Each person you assign gets a training task until they complete it. Weekly digest emails list open tasks, training included, for anyone who does not sign in often.
Complete your own training
- Open the document from your training task, or from Your training under Framework then Training.
- Read the document to the end.
- Select Complete training at the foot of the document.
- Read the statement in Complete your training.
- Select Confirm.
The statement confirms your awareness and understanding of the document, and that you accept the role, responsibilities and rights it gives you. Sted records the date against that version, the document shows Training complete, and your task closes. You can complete training only on the current approved version, and only for yourself.
When a new version is approved
A new approved version asks people to train again, because what they confirmed was the earlier wording. Their completion on the earlier version stays on record, so you can show who had read which version on any date.
Reading the register
The Training register lists every training record in your organisation, with the person, document, version, assigned date, completed date and status. Filter it by Status (All, Pending or Completed) and by Document to find who is outstanding before an audit.
Each trainee assignment also counts towards audit readiness: it is done once the person completes it.
Version control without the paper trail
The usual way to run policy acknowledgement is a spreadsheet of names and a chase by email. Here, the version is fixed at the moment someone confirms, so a later edit never silently rewrites what they agreed to. Reviewers and Personnel only ever see approved documents, so nobody is asked to train on a draft.
Permissions
| Action | Administrator | Policy and Process Owner | Reviewer | Personnel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| See a document’s training page | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| See your own training | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Complete training | Their own, when assigned | Their own, when assigned | Their own, when assigned | Their own, when assigned |
| Assign or remove trainees | Yes | Documents they own | No | No |
| See the training register | Yes | Yes | No | No |
A Policy and Process Owner assigns and removes trainees only on documents they own. Reviewers and Personnel do not see the assign and remove controls, and the register is left off their Training page.
Limits and plan features
Re-issuing training on a version that has not changed is not available yet, so an annual refresher on an unchanged policy is not something Sted can request today. A new approved version is what asks people to train again.
Training is in the Framework and Users and Full Management System plans. Framework and Users costs £299 a month for up to five users, and Full Management System £499 a month for up to 15, excluding VAT. On Preview and Just the Framework the Training row stays in the sidebar and opens a notice naming the plan that includes it.

Frequently asked questions
Does completed training expire in Sted?
No. Completed training stays complete for that version. A new approved version asks people to train again, but re-issuing training on a document that has not changed, for an annual refresher, is not available yet.
Can I mark training complete for someone else?
No. Each person confirms their own training, because the record says that they read and understood the document. An administrator can assign people and see who is outstanding in the training register, but cannot complete it for them.
What happens to training when a new version is approved?
Everyone it applies to is asked to train again on the new version. Their earlier completion stays on record against the old version and cannot be changed or deleted, so you can show who knew which version when.
Which Sted plans include training?
Two: Framework and Users at £299 a month and Full Management System at £499 a month, both excluding VAT. On Preview and Just the Framework the Training row is still in the sidebar and opens a notice naming the plan you would need.
